Shabana Mahmood selected for Birmingham Ladywood

Shabana Mahmood has won Birmingham Ladywood selection contest yesterday.

She polled 118 votes to Yvonne Mosquito's 99 votes. The other 2 hopefuls shortlisted were Penny Barber and Sandra Samuels.
The 27 years old barrister is the daughter of Mhamood Ahmed, the Birmingham Labour Party Chair.

At next GE she will defend a 23.23% notional majority.
Last May Labour won 3 out 4 wards making up the Ladywood constituency. Overall they polled 42.94% to LD 28.78%

I think it’s the first time that a BAME woman is selected from an AWS in a Labour held seat.
